I have boxes and boxes of handed down items, including my maternal grandfather's baby book.
The BABY'S BOOK |
The book is small, about 3 1/2" x 5 1/4" in size, with some embroidered decoration.
The baby's name is listed as Lowell Copeland Jr, but he was named Lowell Townsend Copeland and called Townsend as a youth. The woman in the photo with baby Townsend, is not his mother and is likely a nursemaid.
Based on a few other records I have, I think this is his mother's handwriting.
Born December 21st 1900, at Winnetka, Ill. (Koehn [?] House)
(Koehn House on Maple Street in Winnetka is listed as the residence of his mother on his birth certificate.)
He was baptized at Christ Church, Winnetka, Ill., by Rev. Henry Groton [sic: Grattan] Moore, on April 28th, 1901, "at a quarter past three."
God-parents were Mabel H. Loveland, Benj. W. Wells [a great uncle], and Samuel A. Greeley [an 18-year-old half brother]. I don't know who Mabel H. Loveland is in relation to this family.
"Baby's kins-folk" included Grandparents Henry Clay Copeland, Sarah Lowell, Samuel Sewall Greeley and Eliza May Wells (the only one who was not living at the time of his birth).
Father and Mother are Lowell Copeland and Ethel May Greeley.
Baby's weight. Grandfather was 9 pounds when he was born on December 21, 1900. A month later, on January 20, 1901, he was up to 11 1/4 pounds and a couple of weeks after that, on February 3, he was 12 pounds.
This week's theme is Handed Down.
