Simeon Chapin (another of my 5th great-grandfathers and a great-great-grandson of Deacon Samuel Chapin) was born on August 20, 1739, in Chicopee, Massachusetts. He married Lucy Doolittle in 1765.
The DAR Genealogical Research Database indicates that Simeon (DAR Ancestor# A020811) served as a captain under Captain (Ephraim) Chapin, whom I wrote about last month.

Again, we return to the multi-volume Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the Revolutionary War for this additional Revolutionary War Chapin ancestor.
Below is a screenshot of the list of officers of the 8th company in the Massachusetts Muster Rolls in the 1st regiment of militia in Hampshire County as of May 1776.
I wrote about Captain Ephraim Chapin last month. 2nd Lieutenant Simeon Chapin is a second cousin one generation removed to Ephraim. The 1st Lieutenant Phineas Chapin, Jr. is Ephraim's nephew (and Simeon's third cousin).
Companies in the Hampshire County regiment were responsible for local defense, reinforcement of Continental forces, and readiness for emergency mobilization.
Three years later, in 1779, Simeon served in Col Elisha Porter's Hampshire County Regiment. This service coincided with heightened defensive measures along the Connecticut coast during 1779. In early July 1779, British Major General William Tryon carried out a series of raids on Connecticut coastal towns, known as Tryon's Raid. Simeon likely volunteered in the aftermath of these raids, which, although quite destructive, did not ultimately draw the main army away from the Hudson River.
Simeon was 36 years old and had a pregnant wife and five children at home in Springfield, Massachusetts, when he was listed as an officer in the Massachusetts muster roll in May 1776.
Based on the births of his children, it doesn't look like Simeon ventured very far from the Springfield area during the Revolution.
Simeon and Lucy's children:
1. Roswell (1767-1843)
2. Lucy (1768-1844)
3. Melinda (1770-1848)
4. Simeon (1772-1776)
5. Thankful (1774-1854) - my ancestor
6. Asaph (1776-1777)
7. Lydia (1778-1846)
8. Sarah (1779-1848)
9. Simeon (1781-1844)
10. Sarah (1784-1864)
Simeon died May 20, 1799, and is buried in Chicopee. His FindAGrave memorial includes a photo of his gravestone.
I descend from Simeon and Lucy (Doolittle) Chapin as follows:
