Wordless Wednesday ~ Eliza May Wells

This branch (Willis / Wells / Greeley) of the family is one with quite a few photographs. Following are several of my second great grandmother, Eliza May Wells (20 Aug 1839 - 18 Sep 1880).

The following framed, undated photograph is kept in a simple small envelope with handwritten identification.

Wife of S.S.G. (Mother of
Ethel + Ruth Greeley.)

I am not sure of the date of either of these photos, except that it's possibly after her 1866 marriage to Samuel Sewall Greeley. I wonder what book she holds open in the photo below?

Whose handwriting is on the back of these photographs? Possibly that of Samuel Sewall Greeley.

  2. I think she looks friendly. At first glance she reminds me of a young Natalie Portman, who fits the friendly personality. Such amazing photos. What a great treasure. Plus you have them digitized to preserve them as well.

    1. Interestingly, I have quite a few photographs from this branch of my family - many are photographs of photographs, so there must be other cousins out there who have copies too. I'm glad this family treasured these enough to make the copies for descendants!
