Tombstone Tuesday ~ Found a Death Date at FindAGrave!

I recently had a FindAGrave.com photo request fulfilled for my third great-grandmother, Sarah (Smith) Lowell whom I wrote about here. I had been looking for her death date for years! I now know she died on March 1, 1884.

She is buried in Calais Cemetery, Calais, Maine. Her FindAGrave memorial links to memorials for her husband, parents and children.

Many thanks to FindAGrave volunteer Janice Gower for taking this photograph. She also provided the following transcription:

    1. Yes, Marian, this was great. My memorial had the name and the birth date and a blank for the death date, and the volunteer photographer found it. This was a genealogy happy dance moment!

    1. 19th century New England gravestones are certainly around - the question is always are they readable. I have other relatives buried in this cemetery, so I was hopeful that a stone was there. I was pleasantly surprised that the stone was legible!

  3. I'm doing a happy dance over here with you. What a discovery... legible date to close the loop, so to speak. I'm so happy for your discovery. Lots of love for the FindAGrave volunteers!
