This week's theme is Immigration.
I have previously shared a list of some of my Great Migration ancestors who arrived in New England between 1620 and 1635, though the Great Migration period covers twenty years from 1620 to 1640, when the political situation changed in England. The Wikipedia page for the Great Migration has a summary.
One of those ancestors was Thomas Lord, one of the founders of Hartford, Connecticut. There is a lineage society for these descendants, but I am not a member. Thomas's son-in-law, Thomas Stanton, was also a founder of Hartford.

Thomas Lord arrived in Massachusetts on the Elizabeth & Ann in 1635. I wasn't able to find an image of the ship they arrived on, but it probably looked very much like the Mayflower, which had arrived 15 years before. Thomas, age 50, arrived with his wife Dorothy, age 46, and children Thomas, 16; Ann, 14; William, 12; John 10; Robert, 9; Aymie (Amy), 6; and Dorothy, 4.
For those of us who have experienced the power of the Atlantic Ocean (I'm thinking of recent storms that have battered the Massachusetts coast), I think it's amazing that these relatively small ships made this trip from England to North America a few times a year. They did not travel during the winter due to the fierceness of Atlantic winter storms.
The Lord family first settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts, but the next year, moved to Connecticut, helping to settle Hartford.
I descend from Thomas Lord as follows, with cousins marrying cousins. See Surname Saturday: Stanton for more information about that family.

Me
One of my Mayflower lines comes through Robert Stanton's (1716-1779) mother, Thankful Denison.
