Sunday's Obituary ~ Maria Adelia McAlpin Pyle
From The New York Times, May 1, 1968, found at Ancestry.com, Historical Newspapers, Birth, Marriage, & Death Announcements, 1851-2003 [database online].
According to the obituary, Great Aunt Adelia died on Saturday, April 27, 1968. There is a memorial for her at Find A Grave which indicates she died on April 26, which apparently is the date on her tombstone at San Giovanni Rotondo.

What a wonderful tribute. I'm enjoying your postings about Aunt Adelia.
ReplyDeleteI've been amazed at how much I've found on her online. Thanks for reading and commenting.
DeleteAdelia led quite an interesting life!
ReplyDeleteI've got McAlpins from NY in my family tree, and I've also got family from the San Giovanni Rotondo area... and I went to a Montessori school! Nice article.
I think we're related! I was just looking through your McAlpin posts and saw that you are descended from Joseph Stanton Rose - his uncle, William Lucius Rose, was my 5th great-grandfather. I've got quite a bit on the Rose family, let me know if you'd like copies of anything.
ReplyDeleteLeah, thanks for reading and commenting. I'll contact you via your email to explore more about our relationship through the Rose family.
DeleteI too am a descendant of the Pyle family, Adelia was my great Aunt!
ReplyDeleteDo contact me at elizhandler @ gmail.com and let me know how you descend from our common great-grandparents!
DeleteI believe she died in the hospital that Padre Pio founded. She wanted to die in her home there but she was in that hospital when she passed.
ReplyDeleteShe's a wonderful inspiration and saint.
