Tombstone Tuesday ~ Pyles and McAlpins

Last week, I shared photographs of Sara Carter (Pyle) McAlpin and an abbreviated family tree showing how a Pyle brother and sister were married to a McAlpin sister and brother.

All four are all buried next to each other in Evergreen Cemetery in Morristown, New Jersey.

Sara's stone:

"Gentle Unto All....
Apt to Teach, Patient, in
Meekness Instructing."

The four gravestones:

Left to right: James Tolman Pyle, Frances Adelaide McAlpin Pyle, Charles Williston McAlpin, Sara Carter Pyle McAlpin.

As you can see, it had rained recently so the photos I have aren't as nice as I'd like. The hyperlinks are to the respective FindAGrave memorials, where you can see better photographs.

  1. Cousin Hillary Smart told me a story about Aunt Sadie (nickname for Sarah) helping him with his French homework in the late 1930s when she was a house guest in CT. Husband Charles McAlpin was first Secretary of Princeton University under Woodrow Wilson.

    1. Great story about Cousin Hilary. I have written a bit about our second great uncle Charles Williston McAlpin.
      Thanks for reading and commenting!
